The Project manager needs to BELIEVE…
Today we had the opportunity to talk to a project management practitioner and also new researcher in the realm of projects. Alfonso Bucero, have been working in project management for the past forty years.When he was younger and began working in the IT industry, he was hesitant to speak in front of groups of people, felt uneasy in meetings, and lacked confidence when making choices. In the projects he oversaw, the majority of his team members were older than he was. He didn’t think highly of himself.
He discovered over the years that having confidence in oneself can help us realize our aspirations, reach our goals, and be happier. He believes that when we don’t believe in ourselves, we become afraid to act, to change, or to try to improve things.
That means that believing in ourselves is kind of like you charge your batteries and increase your positivism every day. We can achieve everything we believe you can. You will find some obstacles in your path but you will be able to overcome it using your passion, persistence and patience. As a project manager, Alfonso Bucero was blocked early in his career because his thoughts, attitudes, and actions were not aligned with his goals. When he discovered that having a positive thinking about himself he could break some old personal barriers regarding his feelings, his life as a project manager changed.
So, how do you, as a project manager believe in yourself?
Believing in yourself as a project manager includes things like self-confidence, self-trust, and autonomy skills.
- Self-confidence is a positive attitude about your abilities, qualities, and judgment.
- Self-trust is faith that you can rely on yourself
- Autonomy is feeling able to choose and direct your own behavior.
These are some of the key components involved in believing in yourself. I struggled with all of them at the beginning of my project management career, buy you need to use your persistence and try it again, and again.
